How Do You Learn
Which method best suits your schedule and style of learning
Blended Learning
Computer / Classroom
Some people prefer learning on-line, at their own pace and at their leisure. In the blended class participants first complete an on-line training which usually takes an hour and a half to two hours, then attend a classroom skills session which takes about an hour to an hour and forty-five minutes, depending on the components included. Certification is good for two years.
Instructor Led Classroom
Classroom Only
Some people learn better through a traditional classroom with instructor led learning. Depending on the components chosen (i.e. Adult, Adult/Pediatric, with or without first aid, this course will run from three hours to six and a half hours. Certification is good for two years.

Maine 1st Health & Safety method uses proven American Red Cross strategies for teaching as the foundation for all courses and programs. We work with all participants to develop the skills necessary to handle an emergency should one occur.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
(BLS)
Rewarding Results
Designed for anyone with a profession in healthcare or whom by the basis of their profession may encounter someone in need. BLS focuses on critical thinking and working as a team to provide high quality aid in order to achieve the best possible outcome for the patient.
This course is offered in two formats:

Bloodborne Pathogens
Primary Safety
This is a one hour American Red Cross course designed to meet OSHA requirements for many workplaces and the public in developing awareness of protection from bloodborne pathogens. The course can be provided as an add-on to other courses or a short stand-alone.
Wilderness / Remote First Aid
What to do when help is an hour or more away
This is a two day course of approximately sixteen hours instruction and practical skills on what to do if an injury or sickness occurs and help is more than an hour away. This American Red Cross certified training requires participants to have a current Adult CPR/AED certification and be at least 14 years of age to take the class. Much of the class is conducted outside of the classroom and in the field, depending on conditions and the ability to maintain a safe environment.
